Question :6

What does it matter most is the quality of the goods that we require.

Answer: (b)

Question :7

Our emphasis is also on the quality of the product but not on its appearance alone.

Answer: (b)

The conjunction 'but' cannot be used here as 'but' expresses a contrast between the two clauses it joins. Here, the latter part also expresses a positive idea. So 'and' is the correct conjunction. As for (a), 'emphasising' is a verb and so won't be appropriate here.

Question :8

He has said so out of affection; do not take it to heart.

Answer: (d)

'Take it to heart' is 'to come to feel in earnest'. It is different from 'take heart' (to become heartened or be encouraged) and 'take something/someone to one's heart' (to form an affection for something/someone).

Question :9

The driver was dazzled by the bright light of the approaching car.

Answer: (d)

'Dazzled' here means 'overpowered the vision of someone by intense light'. 'Twinkled' means 'shone with a flickering gleam of light'. 'Flashed' means 'gleamed into sudden flame or light'. 'Glowed' means 'emitted bright light'.

Question :10

Before the doctor comes, the patient had been escaped from the ward.

Answer: (a)

A past perfect tense is to be used as it denotes a 'finished' action that was completed before another past action or before a specific time in the past. 'Had been' is used in past perfect continuous tense only; and as it is in 'continuous' tense, 'had been' has to be followed by a verb in the continuous tense ('escaping') and not a verb in the simple past ('escaped').
